Week 18--Bath, Guyana

Elder Allen --week 7

So did you have shrimp for Thanksgiving instead of Turkey? Or is that just what Mom wanted? Nice, I love it when you send Christmas to me. My only request now is snow.

I get to stay in Bath until Thursday because Elder Allen's trainee doesn't get in until then, so I will be his companion still until Thursday, and then the teaching assistants will take me over to Berbice River to Canje. Canje isn't very far, but I won't get there until Thursday. That's ok. I want as much time as I can get here in Bath. I'm going go miss the people here so much. I probably won't be able to see the baptisms even though Canje isn't far.

Thanksgiving was fun. We had a Turkey bowl in New Amersterdam. My team won, and then we had the dinner as the Haake's. They are the new senior couple in Berbice. They live in Canje. it was nice to be with all the other missionaries in Berbice and have a nice meal. I was pretty tasty.

It's been a great week here. Next week, I'll be emailing from New Amsterdam, and I will be working in Canje.

We made fish and chips on Sunday. It was pretty awesome. 

Thankgiving 2017

I just wanted to let you know that the senior couple here in Berbice will be doing a Thanksgiving for us on Thursday. We get to have a devotional, a Turkey Bowl, and some turkey (two turkey's costs $100 USD!). I'm looking forward to it. It should be fun. Also when I move to Canje, my companion's name is Elder Fisher.

Week 17--Bath, Guyana

Elder Allen--Week 6

Hello Family,

Thanks for the package. I got it on Thursday. The beef jerky was so tasty, and the muffins were amazing. The Halloween candy was pretty great too. Thanks for all the ties. I keep wearing them.  It's so great to switch up what ties I am wearing. The notes were very nice. Thank you for the inspiration, Grace. Thanks for the lovely letter, Mom. Cooper, I'm pretty sure the skeleton didn't cross the road because he had no muscles to move the bones and no brain to tell the muscles what to do. Thanks for sending the iPod. I can finally listen to those songs again. They are very nice. You play a mean violin, Mom. The camera cord is very nice as well. It actually works, so I'm very excited for that. Last Monday, we went into the backdam and picked mangos with the member. These are pictures of it. On Saturday, we climbed up on some scaffolding and painted a member's house. It was so fun. We put on Elder Cook shirts to cover our own clothes. Luckily, he has huge shirts, so it worked pretty well. We got transfer calls a week early this transfer. Elder Allen and I were expecting to stay together in Bath for Christmas. I really want to stay in Bath because we have so many wonderful people on baptismal date for December. I was told that Elder Allen is staying in Bath, and I am moving to Canje. There are about 20+ areas in Guyana, but Canje is still in Berbice, so I'm not moving too far. It's right next to New Amsterdam. I still have a week and a half left in Bath, though, so I'll be sure to continue working hard for them. I am going to miss them so much when I have to leave. I'll also get pictures with everyone so that you can see the wonderful people here. We had nine investigators at sacrament meeting yesterday. It was incredible. Brother Terry (the fisherman) brought the whole family to church and stayed for three hours. Well, I love you all and I hope you have a fantastic week.

Week 16--Bath, Guyana

Elder Allen--Week 5

Hello Family,

I'd like to make a public announcement that hamsters are beautiful creatures, and no one has any right to be making them into casseroles or burritos or anything like that. However, naked mole rats have no other purpose than to be made into jerky, so that one is okay. Cooper, I am glad you finally figured out how to put on a shirt correctly. I can't believe it's taken you nine years to figure it out. It's ok, now you are set for the rest of your life. We have a few holidays here. One was Emancipation Day. It was in August. Then we had Diwali, which is a Hindu holiday. It was in October. No one celebrates Halloween here, and I don't really think anything will happen for Thanksgiving. My package is in Georgetown! I should get it this week when someone brings it back down to Berbice, so that's exciting. Yay for Eliza! She is going to love her mission. Mom, jury duty is going to be amazing. Don't you worry about it. I'm excited to hear the music you do with Sally Deford this time. Cooper are you wearing a BYU helmet with a Utah State shirt? Why didn't you wear the shirt the right way? I hope everyone in the branch is ok with so many getting deployed. I will be praying for you. Sister Baby is doing great. Brother Mike reads to her from the Book of Mormon a lot. It's pretty sweet. She has a baptismal date for December 9th, and we'll do our very best to prepare her for that date. She always makes us so much food when we go over to her house. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to explode after I am done eating. She is so amazing. Another investigator, Sister Lorena, is so close to baptism. She just needs a birth certificate. Her husband has finally agreed to marry her. She is so excited, and she is so ready to be baptized. I hope everyone has a wonderful week, and always remember to wear your shirt like Cooper does.

Week 15--Bath, Guyana

Elder Allen--Week 4

Hello Family,

This week was a great week. Grace, I can't believe you got to go see Les Miserables already. It sounded amazing. Don't worry about the buzzer. It'll get better, I promise. Payton, if you can finish a million papers in one week, I will eat my shoes. That's a promise from Elder Hanni. Grace, did you dress up as a...man...for Halloween? I am getting a little worried for you. Just think about unicorns and princesses. I got some pictures for you. Elder Allen and I went and found the ocean. There aren't really beaches here in Bath, but there's a lot of jungle, so we had to find a track next to a trench to take us to the ocean. It was fun. We found one of our investigators in his fishing boat coming home for the day. Payton, he fishes for a living. He is really cool. When we taught him about Joseph Smith, we asked him if God would be able to answer his prayers too. He said, "Joseph Smith is just like me, and if God could answer Joseph's prayer, then he could answer me too." It is especially amazing because he can't read very well, and in that way, he is just like Joseph Smith. It is really fun to be able to work with him. The other pictures are of Elder Allen. He likes to be creative when he does his Laundry. I think it's pretty fun. Kimm, your cats are adorable. I want to hold them. Do you think you could send them to me for a few minutes? I'm assuming that's what it means to love me to the fridge and back. Cooper, Guyana is pretty sweet. We should be getting into the rainy season in the next month or two, So that is pretty exciting. Mom, enjoy jury duty. I'm sure it will be amazing. Always remember to smile, and never forget your testimony at home. Dad, some missionaries fall into trenches when they ride their bikes here. That hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm sure it will happen to me or one of my companions at some point. I love you all, and I hope you have a marvelous week. Week 14--Bath, Guyana

Elder Allen--Week 3

Hello Family,

What is up? How is the life there in New York? By the way, to the Guyanese, if you are from the States, you are from New York, so I just thought I would let you know where you're actually from. I heard about the loss to Trinidad. A few people were talking about it, and I was sad that the US isn't in the World Cup this year. Eliza is already having her farewell. Does she leave this week?  Wow. That's pretty exciting. She's gonna freeze in New York. I got me some Caribbean sun down here. It's nice. The Smith's moved to Woodland Park? Nice. That's a good choice. Where do you get the RANA Ravioli. You should show that to Kimm.

This week, we had an investigator come to church, and we haven't been able to see her in a week. That doesn't happen that often. Most of the time, you have to beg people to come to church, but she is so willing, and she really wants to learn more and come closer to Jesus Christ. It was a district conference in Canje, and afterward we had a lesson at the church with her about the Book of Mormon, and when we asked her what she learned, she said, "I learned about the Mormon book and what it can do for me. How if I study these words, I will come closer to God." She is a wonderful lady, and she has a baptismal date for December 9. We are so excited for her.
